The Teacher Education Division is a diverse community of professionals who lead and support teacher education on behalf of students with exceptional needs and their families. We accomplish this through:

Strategic Plan 2015-2019

TED’s 2015-2019 Strategic Plan was developed by the TED Board after receiving member feedback through an online membership survey, key informant interviews, and feedback sessions held during two national conferences. Strategic themes (i.e., broad goals) and strategic initiatives (i.e., activities) to be addressed over this five-year period follow.


The strategic themes represent the essence of TED’s vision and mission statement, that is, how we respond when asked, “What does TED do?” (Our elevator speech.)

We foster teaching, research, evaluation and leadership skills of teacher educators through professional development.

We advocate for special education teacher-education policy, research, and practice that focuses on improving outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities.

We promote and disseminate research-based practices related to special education teacher education.

We advance collaborative practices that positively impact the outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities through teacher education.
